Description
Elder Services was established in 1974 as a private, nonprofit Home Care Corporation, in accordance with the Older Americans Act. In 1975, Elder Services was federally designated as Berkshire County's Area Agency on Aging. That same year, ESBC began offering the Elder Nutrition/Meals on Wheels program. In 1997, the Massachusetts' Executive Office of Elder Affairs designated ESBC as the Aging Services Access Point for Berkshire County, covering all 946 square miles and 32 cities and towns. ESBC's 100-plus staff members and over 200 volunteers, who provide nearly 30,000 hours of volunteer service annually, serve more than 10,000 seniors (those 60 and over), individuals with disabilities, and caregivers a year. ESBC offers a range of programs and services to help seniors, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities continue to live in their own homes and communities and delay or avoid more costly nursing facility placements.
